Vendee Globe - Golding loses ground
|
Vendee Globe Race 2012-2013. Mike Golding is pointing at Les Sables d’Olonne early this morning with 485 miles to sail at 0300hrs UTC now lying in sixth place. But the final miles of this around-the-world race promise a sting in the tail, with 35-40kts of N’ly winds expected through the final day. 'I am accelerating now. I have been waiting to get going and finally it is happening, I am pointing past Finisterre and at Les Sables d’Olonne and that certainly feels better but it looks like it will be a windy finish alright! It should be fine in the N’ly closer to the coast,' Golding said this morning. The British skipper is on course to complete the Vendée Globe for the third time after finishing seventh in 2000-2001 and third in 2004-2005. He has dropped behind his long time rival, Jean Le Cam [SynerCiel] with a deficit of 33 miles this morning after struggling with lighter winds through the last 48 hours. Le Cam is sailing downwind angles and is slightly quicker than Golding on Gamesa. He is predicted to arrive in Les Sables d’Olonne on Wednesday afternoon. Vendee Globe Race
