Telwater revives Savage, WA desperate for pens |
As I read the 'Guide to Winterizing Your Boat', emailed to me from a US PR company, with tips on avoiding snow and ice which can sink your boat, freeze your engine and damage seals, biminis and other fixtures, I give thanks that in Australia we rarely see such cold extremes. Although this past few weeks, with temps swinging from 12 to 35 in Sydney, rain and shine in equal doses on the Gold Coast, we are a little confused. No matter. The boating season has begun and several dealers in NSW, VIC and QLD have reported promising sales so far. Over in the west, following a successful Mandurah show, the industry is being stifled according to the BIA and many dealers, who believe they could be capitalizing on the local mining boom and selling many more units, but for the lack of berths. It’s estimated there is a need for around 4000 pens! The new Liberal government promised immediate action on marinas and infrastructure and there are plenty of plans in the pipeline, but it could be five years before anything is available. Also this week, news that Telwater has bought the iconic Savage brands from BRP and will be producing the range from January 2009. Plus there’s plenty of information on international boat shows, new products and industry happenings, views and opportunities. Keep in touch.
