The management and tenants at the popular Runaway Bay Marina on the Queensland Gold Coast combined their talents last weekend to stage a Boating Expo, which was blessed by sunshine, a rare commodity in recent weeks. Quite a good crowd turned out over the two days of the expo, which featured big boats, trailer boats, inflatables, dinghies, kayaks, marine engines and electronics and general boating accessories. Maritimo dealer Noel Leigh-Smith reported strong success for the dealership, with the team currently working on ‘three strong prospects’. 'We also unearthed a number of brokerage opportunities,' he added. 'It was a surprisingly good result for us.' Honda Marine, with Queensland manager Mark Suttle on deck, had one of the company’s four-stroke engines rigged in a water drum and gave a number of demonstrations to visitors. An unusual aspect on display for a boating expo was the motorcycle race team sponsored by Maritimo. The team’s 1 rider is none other than Blake Leigh-Smith, son of Noel and a very fine exponent of the art of going very fast on a motorcycle. All in all, it was a clever initiative of the marina. It comes under the heading of marketing and when things are tight it’s good to see the boating industry ‘getting out there.’
 | The flags were flying - no prizes for guessing Maritimo played a major role at the Runaway Bay expo. It is the site of the company's major Queensland dealership and had several models on display. Bob Wonders Click Here to view large photo |
