Sail-World.com : Rosehill Gardens set to welcome the boating industry

Rosehill Gardens set to welcome the boating industry

'Rosehill Gardens Boat Show'    BIA NSW
Sydney’s Rosehill Gardens Racecourse will switch modes from its usual ‘playground’ for punters and thoroughbreds, for the annual staging of the Rosehill Trailer Boat Show.

Set down for the weekend of March 17-18, the ninth staging of the show will feature more than 50 exhibitors, among them the leading marine retailers and distributors from many areas across NSW.

With its usual free admission, free parking appeal, the show will again expect in excess of 11,000 visitors over the three-days.

The show began as the Great Silverwater Boat Show and was held at Silverwater Park, not far from Rosehill.

However, being totally outdoors, it was at times hampered by inclement weather and a churned up grassed area making move in and move out as difficult as it was unpalatable for visitors.

The move into the modern, enclosed premises at Rosehill delivered a tremendous ‘shot in the arm’ to the show.

Show organiser, the Boating Industry Association (BIA) of NSW, said the exhibition had proven itself on two major fronts – it has become an ideal platform for exhibitors to clear their showrooms and is no recognised as a ‘bargain hunter’s paradise’ by show visitors.

'The Rosehill show was planned originally as an outlet for dealerships to clear their decks in readiness for expected new stock for the 2012/2013 summer period,' Domenic Genua, Marketing and Event Manager for the association explained.

'Because this has remained the primary aim of the show, boating enthusiasts are only too well aware that it is the place to achieve value for money, whether the shopping list includes a new boat, engine, boat trailer or similar,' he added.

Product on display at Rosehill will comprise new water ski and specialist fishing boats, all manner of small rigs such as canoes, kayaks and inflatable craft, marine engines, electronics and fishing tackle, if it’s related to recreational boating, Rosehill is where it can be located.

Necessary ‘paperwork’’, such as insurance inquiries and attending to boat licences and registration can also be handled at the show, with Club Marine and NSW Maritime both hosting informative exhibits.

Always striving to add appeal to the show, the BIA this year has added a ‘Kid’s Zone’ aimed at offering a prime attraction to the younger generation.

The Kid’s Zone will feature magical tricks, story telling, no doubt with a nautical bent, displays on transforming balloons into animals and various arts and crafts to tempt young boaters.

Those whose idea of boating means fishing will find plenty on offer with Brett Thompson and his unique Supertank and its performing fish, generally playing to standing room-only audiences.

Volunteer Marine Rescue groups will also have displays, generously donated to them by the BIA to assist in boating safety information and to help raise much-needed funds.

Despite its location in the virtual centre of sprawling metropolitan Sydney, visitor research undertaken by the BIA has revealed that many make the trek to Rosehill from as far distant as the Blue Mountains, the Centre Coast, the Mid-North Coast, the Hunter Valley and the Illawarra.

Obviously, the opportunity to attend an exhibition where entry and parking are free is something show visitors find appealing, but the excellent facility offered by Rosehill Gardens, together with the array of indoor and outdoor dining opportunities plays a major role.

'I believe the show has a distinctly ‘family feel’ to it and the Kid’s Zone this year will add to that,' Mr Genua added.

'No matter which aspect of boating a family may be involved with, a visit to the Rosehill Trailer Boat Show remains a most pleasant day out with lunch on the lawns, taking in the great outdoors or simply negotiating the best deal on the goods on your shopping list.'

The show will be open 9am to 5pm on both days and for those not familiar with the suburb of Rosehill, no location could be more easily accessed with Sydney’s ring road system offering a direct route from all areas within the metropolitan area.
