Northside Marine Closes its GC operations
'Northside Marine will have the Whittley 2600 as the centrepiece of its display at BIBS.'    .
The landmark Labrador premises of Northside Marine on the Gold Coast have shut their doors, with no 'going out of business sale' or fanfare, just a centralisation to its Brisbane HQ.

After 20 years of continual service in the Marine Industry, Chris Yates, Gold Coast Branch Manager Northside Marine Group, has been bitten by the travel bug and has decided with his partner Nicole Hillman to travel Australia over the next 12 months.

This coincides with the conclusion of the lease that Northside Marine Gold Coast held over the premises in Labrador and will see Northside marine exit the Gold Coast market at the end of August.

'We decided that instead of trying to replace Chris and then train somebody, we would simply close down the Gold Coast operation,' says MD Greg Nickerson. 'I wasn’t in the mood to interview people who may or may not work out. We offer a superior level of service to our customers and we won’t compromise on that.'

While Nickerson admits that 'things are tough on the Gold Coast', he anticipates a successful Brisbane International Boat Show and is taking one of the biggest stands there – 1000m² of space, showcasing the Whittley brand, including the new 2600 model, and 38 boats in total.

'Things are tracking nicely for us. We have been going strong since my dad started the company in 1965. We’ve been on the Gold Coast for around five years and simply decided to move things back to Brisbane.'

Chris Yates, who has been with Northside Marine for a decade, says he is very proud of what the group achieved on the Gold Coast. Yates sold and delivered over $16m worth of boats in that period to many satisfied customers.

'The one thing we will really miss are the great customers that we have had the pleasure to work with on the Coast, many of whom have become good friends.'

As Greg Nickerson explains: 'Chris has been one of our most dedicated co-workers and will be sadly missed. Starting with us some 10 years ago in the service area he soon moved into sales.

'He still holds the Brisbane branch record of the largest number sales in a year, then moved to the Gold Coast to establish Northside Marine Gold Coast and has done a great job of that as well. Nicole and Chris’s work ethic and customer service are to be admired and we look forward to when they return from their travels to see if there is a role to play with Northside Marine once again.'

Northside Marine will continue its complete marine operations from its headquarters at Boondall in Brisbane.
