Austal behemoth due, SCIBS countdown, Raymarine new products on show
By now you must have ‘OD-d' on news from Hong Kong. Hope there was enough variety to amuse, inform and enthuse. It's a must-be place for boat brands, big and small, as HK is the gateway to mainland China and considered the most suitable place to buy a boat.
I tucked a few more morsels in there for interest sake too, about the cuisine and culture, and yes, the shopping was great!
Now all attention is on Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show next week, and even our northern neighbours are planning visits to see how a dynamic, well supported Australian show shapes up for consumers and the trade. There's plenty of innovation, launches and world-firsts scheduled for this year's event, so let's just pray the Goddess Tin Hau (Deity of the Sea) smiles on us, the elements conform and skies remain clear.
Also this week, we have news from Austal, our country's most successful ship builder, awaiting the completion of its massive 102m high speed trimaran, which is already attracting interest from around the world; there's some exciting news about investment and development underway in Auckland's Wynyard Quarter and planned for the Gold Coast's Coomera precinct in Queensland, as well as award winners from WA.
Now the magic dust is settling and the 5 Oceans PR claims have, it seems, disappeared or never were, a summary: No, Sail-World is not responsible for the WSSRC Rules, we are Southern hemisphere based, we run an online sailing publication and subscriptions are free. We made a host of attempts, by phone and email querying the route and the record claims with her PR team. The first of those was around 70 days before her departure.
We'd like to put on record our very sincere thanks to the sailing community for their considerable support at every level, from sailors everywhere, our advertisers, industry, media, both sailing and general. We were very heartened that the industy 'got it'. You can judge for yourself reading the feedback, the marine industry understood what had been happening.
We DO think Jessica Watson has sailed very well and we feel she is young Australian of whom we should all be proud. We will be reporting at length on her heroic circumnavigation and what will surely be a great welcome home. Enough of this subject.
