The Optimist Sailing Boats for Kids program was announced on Friday at the Sydney International Boat Show (SIBS) Opening Breakfast by BIA's General Manager Roy Privett.

This program, which has the potentail to be taken up internationally, by marine industry, offers businesses from various segments of the industry to participate by purchasing one or more Optimist sailing dinghies, which will be allocated to successful sailing clubs which have tendered to part of the program and comply with YNSW guidelines to stage learn to sail activities. In an effort to increase participation in the sport, the Optimist Sailing Boats for Kids Program is a BIA/YNSW initiative with the first group of eight boats being presented to Concord Ryde Sailing Club in Sydney.

In front of 500 guests at the Darling Harbour, the venue for the 2010 SIBS, David McClean and David Loring representing CRSC were very delighted to receive the boats.

'This is a fantastic initiative that will promote even more activity in our club. These boats will fill the gap and provide a vital resource to take on more children who may not have been in a position to learn to sail.

We congratulate the BIA and Yachting NSW for this, the boats built by McConaghys; well they are just terrific, superbly built and look great.'
