Bob 'Robbo' Robertson can proudly boast legendary status after he and his crew aboard his Beneteau First 40 Lunchtime Legend, took out Division 3 of the Rolex Sydney Hobart. And after 40 years of competitive sailing completing a number of Sydney Hobart races, Bob has officially announced his retirement from racing.

Racing in the very competitive Division 3 was hard fought with the lead changing constantly as the fleet tracked south on the infamous course. But according to 'Robbo' it was their preparation that provided them with the ultimate edge.

'It was mentally and physically a tough race, the conditions were challenging over the four days although we did get a 12 hour period of perfect downwind conditions', said Bob. 'We knew we had a good boat and that we’d always have the speed to challenge for the lead, and I’m ecstatic to come away with the divisional win in my final race. The crew did a great job and they are elated with our win.'

Beneteau’s dominated the fleet in Division 3 with 9 out of the 14 entrants, and the French marque took 4 of the top 5 positions. Lunchtime Legend just edged out Chris Bran and Brannew while Andrew Saies aboard Two True took out fourth place with Mike Welsh and Wicked coming in fifth.

In Division 2 Nick Athenios aboard his Beneteau 47.7 Kioni came in a credible fourth.

And what’s next for 'Robbo' after announcing his retirement? 'I’ll happily enjoy a couple of jugs of rum and coke with my crew courtesy of the other Beneteaus in the fleet, then we’ll all take a well earned rest,' said Bob.
