Writing this from the drenched and grey Gold Coast, we are celebrating full dams but lamenting the schism between our perennial advertising campaign (blue skies, shimmering waterways and friendly folk) and the drizzle. Rain doesn’t stop visitors having fun on water, but it has been known in the past to slow down boat sales. Let’s hope the fall of the AUD and interest rates, as well as other government initiatives – they seem to be giving money away – motivates consumers to buy boats. This weekend, the BIA of NSW is whetting people’s appetite with its “Clear the Decks Sale” at Darling Harbour. More than 70 exhibitors will occupy Halls 4 and 5 of the Exhibition Centre, with larger boats on the water on the adjoining Cockle Bay Marina. Also this week, more piracy off the coast of Africa, this time an oil-laden Saudi supertanker, which sent jitters through the oil market, figures from a study that reveals SCIBS rakes in more than $310m for the Gold Coast, and your opportunity to bid for the 60m, 1922 built Manly Ferry 'BARAGOOLA’, auctioned online between now and November 25 at www.graysonline.com.au More from Sanctuary Cove, is the news that SCIBS 2009 will feature 22% more space – around 8,800m² and an expanded international marketing program to support the show, May 21 to Sunday, May 24. There are plenty of product launches, NMSC calls for comments and AIMEX’s overview of the Barcelona Boat Show. Finally, just weeks before Sydney City Marine officially opens, retailers and allied marine enterprises have the opportunity to take up premises at what will surely be an idyllically located marine hub – just beneath the Rozelle bridge. Management is looking for commercial tenants keen to set up a great restaurant, gym, insurance company or other businesses, just 5 minutes from the CBD. Thanks for your comments over the past week. We are always happy to take amendments and suggestions onboard. Keep ‘em coming!
