JJ Giltinan 18ft Skiffs: Big rigs again for Day 2 - PredictWind
|
Moderate winds from a southerly direction are again forecast for the second race of the 64th JJ Giltinan 18ft Skiff Championship being sailed on Sydney Harbour PredictWind is showing winds lighter than yesterdays's first race, when breezes kicked in at 17-19 kts against a forecast of an average 10-13kts around race start time of 4.00pm. Today, according to data available at 7.30am local time in Sydney) the breezes are expected to peak at an 11kts average (more in gusts) around noon before easing very slightly later in the day. Both feeds used by PredictWind are very close, meaning that the prognosis has a high degree of accuracy. Gusts will be above this average strength. The forecast may change closer to race time as more up to date data comes available Both feeds are very similar in the wind direction today. Initially expected to be from an easterly direction (090) the wind will swing slightly south during the afternoon, easing slightly and settling in a direction of SE (about 120 degrees). As with yesterday, the bottom line for crews is that there is some certainty for rig selection (big rigs a certainty). This prognosis has been based on a reference point in the centre of Sydney Harbour, and will obviously vary on the edges of the course
