The Grand Pavois president, Alain Pochon, made the announcement on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at the 40th Grand Pavois: it is now Grand Pavois Organisation - with the support of the city of La Rochelle and the General Council of Charente-Maritime - that will manage the 'Rallye des Iles du Soleil'. This racing rally is dedicated to boaters in search of adventure and it is 20 years old already. It offers to amateurs the possibility to realize their transatlantic dream with stops in Atlantic Islands (Madeira, Canary Islands, Cape Verde...).

In October 2013, it is toward Brazil than fifty yachts should head from La Rochelle, with a first stop in Madeira - surely, knowing that the second part of the fleet will come from the Mediterranean. The rally will, then, ascend from Salvador de Bahia (Brazil) along the shores of Brazil, and will ascend the Amazon partly. The new organization is working on an arrival in a French port overseas, according to the wishes of the participants themselves. A full program will be presented in a few weeks.

Alain Pochon, President of the Grand Pavois: 'I am pleased to announce that we will organize - in 2013 - in partnership with the city of La Rochelle and the General Council of Charente-Maritime - the Rallye des Iles du soleil. With the organization of this Transatlantic via Brazil, we are perfectly in line with our enthusiastic visitors, but also and especially with shipyards and marine professionals. Indeed, these boaters are the best ambassadors for the boatyards, as they sail aboard the yard's boats and they sail across the Atlantic. Also, we will work in the development of a village at the start to optimize the economic impact of the event in La Rochelle, we will develop a monitoring system for vessels at sea to maximize their safety but also their communication with their relatives and we will work with our Brazilian friends to welcome at best the fleet of sailors. We are fully in line with our event the Grand Pavois. And to see yachtsmen navigate is something that we want over everything!'
