Queensland Fire and Rescue Service (QFRS) say they have contained a fire which threatened 230 boats at the Horizon Shores marina at Jacobs Well, 30 minutes south of Brisbane. At 2pm yesterday, 23 QFRS crew members attended the scene at the boat storage shed on Cabbage Tree Point Road, Steiglitz. According to their reports, the large multi-level metal structure was well involved in fire. QFRS Duty Manager for Operations for south-east Queensland Mick Torrens said as many as 20 boats have been lost in the blaze. 'But we'll have to wait til the smoke clears to do a comprehensive check,' he added. 'We understand the fire started in the north-west corner of quite a large building, and we're assuming in one of the boats itself. We haven't had reports of any injuries, but there’s a lot of smoke.' Mr Torrens says QFRS are investigating the cause of the blaze. Investigators on scene have not yet reported their findings and will make a statement this morning. He says QFRS are pulling boats out of the building with a forklift to determine the full extent of the damage, but there has been no major structural damage identified. 'I'm sure there will need to be some replacement of roofing panels, but at this stage there's no major structural damage.'
