In late 2005, Australian-based Azzura Marine acquired the Marten range of high-performance sailing yachts from a New Zealand-based company. Azzura Marine has undertaken with the support of Steve Marten to continue the vision of Marten Yachts.

This years Sydney International Boat Show will mark the official Australian debut of the eagerly anticipated Marten 49. Azzura Marine has wasted no time in providing for the discerning marine market. In addition to the launch of Australia’s first Marten 49, a further two are under construction for delivery in 2006.

Set to be a ‘landmark’ model for Marten Yachts, the Marten 49 strikes the right balance between high-performance and comfort in the highly competitive cruiser/racer market. Designed by Reichel/Pugh, the Marten 49 offers an exhilarating racing yacht whilst providing the ability to make fast passages whilst short handed or whilst cruising.

Epitomising a polished, modern look with sleek, well proportioned lines, the Marten 49 is built out of the latest advanced composite technology using pre-preg carbon. A lift keel allows for improved draft and performance when racing and reduced draft for accessibility to shallow ports and bays when cruising. With its sleek, elegant lines, special attention was given to a completely flush deck.

The modern interior is lightweight in construction using a mix of painted surfaces with timber veneers. All doors are of aluminium honeycomb core with a veneer surface. An extensive list of available options allows each owner to customise their Marten interior towards either a sport package or cruising package.

The Marten 49 is a three cabin design that can accommodate up to six guests for blue water passages or, for the racing owner; these cabins may be replaced with adjustable sea berths and sail stowage space.

Should the early excitement and momentum of the Marten 49 continue, it is planned to extend the range of Marten Yachts available. Azzura Marine owner Iain Murray, states 'We are delighted with the early success of the Marten 49 and the worldwide interest this brand is receiving. The Marten is truly an amazing yacht'.

The first Australian Marten 49 will be on display at Berth 1, Cockle Bay Marina, Darling Harbour at the Sydney International Boat Show.
