Andrew Short Marine management strengthened
|
Kylie Short, now managing director of major Sydney marine dealership Andrew Short Marine Services, has moved to strengthen the company’s management team with two new appointments. Since losing her husband Andrew in a yachting tragedy just on 12 months ago, Kylie Short has made more than a ‘good fist’ of running the company established by Andrew some 25-years ago. The dealership is Sydney’s sole Sea Ray dealer and handles Mercury Marine, Boston Whaler, Stacer, Quicksilver and a variety of ski boats and boating accessories and equipment. In recent management moves, Kylie has announced the appointment of Stella Tzonis to the role of Operations Manager while Beau Smith takes on the all-important role of Sales Manager. While the appointments are new, both those involved know the company very well; Stella Tzonis is a 10-year veteran with Andrew Short Marine, originally joining as a secretary. Beau Smith was with the company for three and a half years become moving on to take on the sales managerial role with a rival dealership; he returned to take on the role at Andrew Short Marine six months ago. Both local Sutherland Shire residents, Stella from Sutherland and Beau from Kirrawee, operate from the company’s head office at near by Taren Point. However, with two marinas, one at Yowie Bay, just a few kilometres from Taren Point and the other at Mosman, on the city’s north side, both spend time liaising with other staff members and occasionally visiting the other facilities. Beau Smith admits the current market is ‘tough.’

With responsibility for a sales staff of four, Beau, like Stella operates from the Taren Point HQ, but maintains constant contact together with occasional visits, to the company’s other operations. On the current ‘soaring’ Australian dollar against the US greenback, Beau said it has made selling US boats above 10.0-metres 'very difficult.' 'On the brighter side, smaller US boats look more value and we’ve made some strong sales in that segment,' he explained. 'We’ve also had some excellent success with the Haines Signature range. The Haines brothers, Greg and John, are terrific to deal with and are never anything but supportive. 'Also on the good side, the inquiry rate is very high quality; those taking the trouble to look are generally prospective buyers, but we have to work hard to get them over the line,' he added. Kylie Short is confident she has made the right decision in implementing changes to the company’s structure. 'Stella and Beau have the necessary experience and fully understand that Andrew Short Marine places strong emphasis on customer satisfaction,' she said. 'I’ve no doubt that Stella and Beau will strengthen that aspect of the business.' For further information contact Andrew Short Marine, Taren Point, Sydney, telephone (02) 9524-2699.
