The 34m (112ft) motoryacht VvS1, built by Alloy Yachts and launched in 2007, has won the Boat International 2008 World Superyacht Award for Best Displacement Motoryacht under 500 gross tonnes.

This brings to 19 the number of international awards yachts built by Alloy Yachts have received since 1991.

VvS1 is an expedition style motoryacht designed by Greg Marshall and built for New Zealand businessman, Michael Hill and his wife, Christine. Mr and Mrs Hill attended the glittering award ceremony in Venice, Italy and were on hand to receive the award.

Since launching, VvS1 has been on an extremely busy schedule exploring through the South Pacific, both for private use and on charter.

'Naturally, we are delighted to receive this recognition', said Alloy Yachts Managing Director Tony Hambrook. 'VvS1 has been an enjoyable project and we are delighted to see the owners deriving so much pleasure from it. The motoryacht is used extensively and reflects the energy and enthusiasm of the owners.'

'We pride ourselves on producing yachts of world-class quality and it is gratifying that these awards confirm our ability to compete in the world market. VvS1 was up against some very stiff competition in its category, so this recognition is very pleasing.

Founded in 1985, Alloy Yachts builds custom aluminium sailing and motor yachts from 30m to 68m. Currently under construction are two large sailing vessels, Mondango, a 52m ketch, and Kokomo, a 58m sloop, as well as a 40m motoryacht. In February this year, Alloy delivered Red Dragon, a 52m sloop, which is currently on its maiden passage to the Seychelles, bound for the Mediterranean.
